Historic
Project

A code compliance upgrade was the program for the Stowe Center Museum. The museum is located in Hartford’s historic Nook Farm neighborhood and includes the Harriet Beecher Stowe House, the Katherine Day House, and a Visitors Center (originally a carriage house), all listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  Our challenge was to increase accessibility with ADA compliance, as well as safety for the public and the museum’s collections with the installation of new fire alarm and sprinkler systems.  Evaluation of various types of sprinkler systems and careful consideration and design of piping of sprinkler head locations was critical to preserving the original character of these historic buildings.
