• Historic Preservation House Relocation
  • 2,938 SF
  • Completed - 2005

Performed by Crosskey Architects, LLC and structural engineer James K. Grant Associates, this brick Victorian house was rehabilitated and relocated from 47 Sigourney Street near the Aetna campus to a new site on the east end of Ashley Street. It was moved without a single crack to avoid demolition. Aetna required the removal of the house to make way for parking and donated it to Northside Institutions Neighborhood Alliance, Inc. (NINA) a non-profit founded by Aetna, The Hartford, Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center and Webster Bank in 2003. NINA focuses their efforts in preserving and revitalizing one of Hartford’s more historic districts: Asylum Hill. The relocation of this historic house is just one example of their preservation efforts.
