Wall Street Place

Norwalk, CT

High quality housing strengthens community fabric.

Wall Street Place Phase I is the first stage of a multi-phase redevelopment in Norwalk’s downtown historic district. The project involves two buildings that will add 155 units of much needed housing to the neighborhood, as well as covered parking and retail space at the street level. The design complements its architectural surroundings, engaging in a respectful dialogue between old and new that promises to help invigorate this expanding district.

Crosskey has been involved in the site since 2004 having started the project with a different owner who wasn’t able to complete its development. The project was revived by the new owners JHM Financial Group in 2018, and Crosskey was brought on board at that time to complete it. This engagement began with a redesign of the proposed exterior to better relate to the Wall Street historic district, balancing contemporary aesthetics with historical proportions and details. An additional 50 apartments became possible atop a nearby 200-space multi-story parking garage, which JHM identified because onsite robotic parking wasn’t feasible (part of the original owner’s concept).

Phase I, which accounts for the majority of a city block, is ringed with over 11,000 SF of ground floor retail which will help enhance the streetscape and pedestrian experience. Both buildings feature outdoor roof space for tenants to gather and enjoy views of downtown Norwalk and the harbor.

“the news about Wall Street Place is a very good thing. This is the honest progress we’ve been looking for, and the city celebrates it.”
