The third phase of a Willington Housing Authority development, this project consists of 24 age-restricted housing units. Crosskey Architects was asked to explore a number of options for this last phase of the development. Our innovative solution maximizes green space and maintains the rural character by stacking units on the sloped site, reducing the building footprints by 50%. Entrances to the single-story apartments are located on both the high and the low sides of the buildings. The site presented additional complexities, such as tying into the existing septic system, utilizing existing detention basins, and making connections to existing parking areas. We have developed site plan options that solve these practical issues while enhancing the neighborhood’s sense of community.
