Dutch Point HOPE VI Revitalization has transformed Hartford’s Dutch Point Colony housing complex. Once a dilapidated 1940s barracks-style “super block”with a high crime rate, the neighborhood is now a pedestrian scaled, family-friendly traditional urban neighborhood. The multi-phase project included the demolition and new construction of a large portion of the site, as well as the rehabilitation of nine of the existing buildings. The new construction consists of larger building with rental units and smaller townhouse buildings designed for home ownership and a community building at the center of the site. Crosskey Architects worked closely with residents and community members during the design process to build consensus and ensure that their needs were addressed. The project is designed to maximize amenities of the Sheldon/Charter Oak neighborhood, including nearby Colt Park and the historic Church of the Good Shepherd.
