20 Belden Street is a single family house, built ca. 1879, in Hartford’s Clay-Arsenal neighborhood. It is an outstanding example of Victorian architecture (sometimes referred to as the “Mark Twain House of the North End”), and it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The elaborate brick work and exceptional detailing are echoed throughout the houses on this block of Belden Street. The house was rehabilitated using state historic tax credits, and all significant architectural features were restored or rebuilt. Modest changes were made to the floor plan to accommodate the lifestyle of the current residents and mechanical and life-safety systems were upgraded to current building codes.
