This renovation at Waterbury hospital has re purposed a currently underutilized blood infusion suite into a new gastrointestinal procedures facility. The gastrointestinal suite will provide caregivers with two generously sized procedure rooms with direct access to instrument processing and scope storage. Studies were conducted while space planning to be sure that the proper programmatic adjacencies provided will require short travel distances between procedural rooms and instrument sanitation and processing, in order to enforce disease prevention and proper practice. Also included are three pre and post-procedure patient beds with direct observation from nurse charting and observation locations, a med room, and adequate storage and support spaces per current healthcare design codes and regulations. Additionally, a connection was made to the bronchoscopy room for staff and procedural efficiency improvement.
