The three-story boat house for the Florida institute of technology men’s and women’s rowing teams is strategically positioned on its waterfront site to take full advantage of the views of Crane Creek and the Indian river. The design concept incorporates curves in both plan and elevation to emulate the crew shell. The eight windows on the front of the facade symbolize team members in a traditional eight person crew while promoting school pride through emphasizing FIT’s school color. The boat storage floor with direct access to the waterfront and launching docks includes four storage bays with a fifth repair/rigging bay. The intermediate floor will provide enough room for over sixty indoor rowing machines for both teams to row at once. Each rowing machine bay will offer panoramic views of the waterfront and direct access to an exterior balcony. In addition to many other features such as a two-story atrium, entrance courtyard and team trophy gallery, the boathouse will also offer an exterior coach’s amphitheater with ample room for 100+ athletes, a third story weight training facility and media room with exterior porch access and a banquet/multi-purpose space that will be available to the public to host waterfront events and weddings.
