The American Graphophone Factory complex is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as contributing to the Railroad Avenue Industrial District, and is comprised of ten buildings of different styles and vintages. The project has been separated into two- phases, the first of construction is well underway. The eastern portion of the complex is currently being renovated as part of Phase I, which consists of a Charter School, Cherry Street Townhouses, and a portion of the Cherry Street Lofts. The F shaped building along Howard Avenue is being renovated into a school to serve approximately 750 students. The western section of the wing along Cherry Street is being be converted to residential units to support the teaching staff, while the six story reinforced concrete building along Railroad Avenue will be converted to 128 accessible units. The three story brick building perpendicular to Charter School is being repurposed to suit 29 townhouses. The one story concrete block and brick multipurpose building will be used as a community space, which will include a gym, and support and administrative offices. Phase II is currently in design development.
